Samuel J. Servello is an associate at Moses & Singer LLP in the Healthcare group. Mr. Servello’s practice focuses on healthcare law and taxation of nonprofit entities. He represents hospital systems, health plans, pharmaceutical companies and banks on transactional, privacy matters and regulatory compliance, including advising on fraud and abuse issues and medical banking concerns. Mr. Servello has extensive experience negotiating research grants and clinical trial agreements; advising on the tax implications of clinical trials activities and issues relating to exemption from taxation; and assisting tax-exempt organizations obtain recognition of tax-exempt status, maintain tax-exempt status and navigate issues around unrelated business taxable income, including income from conducting clinical research.
Mr. Servello is presently the Chair of the Health Law Committee of the New York City Bar Association. Through his efforts with the City Bar’s Health Law Committee, Mr. Servello continues to be involved with cutting edge issues that arise in the area of health law in the State of New York, including issues around establishment and expansion of medical homes in the State; the lack of on-call specialists in emergency departments; privacy and security issues presented in the sharing electronic health records; proposals to mandate that employers provide paid sick days for all employees; off-label marketing of drugs and devices; increasing organ donation through the revised New York Anatomical Gift Act; proposed legislative changes to increase of HIV testing in the State; as well as many other issues arising under New York and Federal law affecting the quality and delivery of, as well as payment for, health care services.
As a volunteer at Beth Israel Medical Center, Mr. Servello serves as a member of Beth Israel’s On-Call Disaster Team in case of a large-scale disaster.
